Local Weather

The inland  climate of the Valleys and Mountains of North East Victoria includes a shorter frost free period in summer, hot summer days with cool valley breezes at night, heavy frosts in the winter, high rainfall distributed over all of the year with a slight maximum in spring and autumn.

There is generally very little wind and it is a more consistent and stable climate than in southern Victoria, as many of the weather fronts that bring change, do not reach north over the divide.  Consequently the number of sunny hours during the year is high.

For Local weather forecasts, watch local news on the Channel Prime News at 5.30 pm or Channel Win News at 6.00 pm, or if watching state weather forecasts Wangaratta and Albury weather is a better indication than Melbourne forecasts.  Temperatures in Bright are generally two degrees lower than Wangaratta and Albury, and temperatures in the high country of our surrounding Mountains often up to ten degrees lower than the valleys.

Rainfall can be very localised within the valley system and the weather vastly different in the valleys compared to the high country, so forecasts for the high country are very difficult.

Good local weather forecasts on the internet can be found on www.bom.gov.au and look for North East forecasts.
