Local walks in and around Bright

The Ovens river, Morses Creek and the abbundance of wild life around Bright calls to be explored by foot. The eight different marked out tracks within Bright help visitors experience the endless natural wonders around our town as well as our history from the gold mining. For maps of these walks or to find out further information please call into the Bright visitors center when you arrive to town.

The Canyon Walk which is approximately 3km return is a popular relaxing walk that helps describe the mining along that path which is still clearly evident with the water races that were carved many years ago by the miners. The Ovens river is also a wonder in its own with the rocks at the bottom often visible from the clearness of the water.

Cherry Walk is also along the Ovens River however going the oppiste direction to to Canyon Walk. Once again you find yourself learning about the past and the dredging that was once done along the river. Also 3km return this walk will take approkimately 1.5 hrs.

The Murray to Mountain Rail trail is a paved path along were the old railway tracks once laid. This path which can be used for either walking or cycling begins near the old railway station which is now a museum and travels all the way to Wangaratta. With many wonderful destinations to stop and get a bight to eat or something to drink it is a great way to spend a day.

Bakers Gully Reservoirs once supplied Bright with water now it supplys visitors and locals a peaceful walk that will only take just over half an hour.

Apex lookout is a two hour return walk to the North of Bright. With a spot to park the car just of Mt Porepunkah Rd you are set to walk up to the beautiful views that spread from the township of Bright over to the high country mountains such as Mt Feathertop.

Huggins Lookout gives a view of Bright from the south side. Only a one hour return walk with photo opotunaties at the lookout.

Wandiligong is a beautiful place to visit and with it only being a two hour return walk theres no reason to take the car out of the garage. Following Morses Creek you are able to view local wildlife while listening to the calming sounds of the running stream.

Once in Wandiligong you visit the Diggings Walk, Royal Bridge walk and Wandi Wander. All of these walks give you a window into the rich history of Wandiligong whilst showing you some great scenery.

Harrietville still holds evidence of the gold digging days with two large dredge holes located there. These large waterholes are surrounded by bush with the small town of Harrietville to one side. Riverside walk and Charlie Miley  walking tracks help you to experience and view the beauty of this little town.

Porepunkah may be a small town but it still offers to any holiday maker the chance to relax and unwind with two easy short strolls. Telfold Historic Walk shows the history of the town where as the Porepunkah River Circuit shows the towns current beauty.
