Kids Stuff
Bright is a great place to bring Kids of all ages. There's always something for them to do.
Playgrounds For the Kids
Down by the river between Howitt Park and Centenary Park in Bright is a great BBQ area with a playground that can keep the younger generation captivated while the adults relax by the river. With swings, see-saws, flying foxes and a range climbing equipment the kids won't want to leave.
If staying in Porepunkah or just going out to look around there is a great park and BBQ area on Nicholson St next to the river and across from the Primary school.
Feeding the animals
When finding something to do with the children, animals are always a good option. In the surrounding area we have the Red Stag Deer and Emu farm in Eurobin, The Buckland Alpacas in the Buckland Valley and The Erindale Alpacas just north of Tawonga. The children have a chance to feed animals at all the farms and create some great photo options. There is also Aspen Spring Farmstay which provides the accommodation and a taste of the farm life.
Swimming In and around Bright
During summer Bright reaches temperatures into the high 30's and occasionally the low 40's. Swimming is a very popular pass time for all ages. The Ovens River flows through Bright and the Buckland River is only a ten minute drive. Both rivers have many great swimming spots with one of the most popular being down in the park near the playground in Bright. During summer a lifeguard is positioned there daily and there is also a diving board and two slides that run into the water. A small childrens pool is also located at the park (depending on the drought to whether or not it is in use).
If in Porepunkah head down to the park where there is a great designated swimming area as well as a baby pool set back from the river (depending on the drought to whether or not it is in use).
Many people head out to Harrietville to the Dredge hole. This is a very deep swimming area so a wharf and children’s area have been built to make it more family orientated.
Kids with wheels
For all those skaters who come to Bright there is even something here for you. Located on Delany Ave just across from Centenary Park is a skate park that is suitable for all ages and standards. With ramps and rails you can practise while meeting others and getting some fresh ideas.
The Murray to Mountain Rail trail is a paved path along were the old railway tracks once laid. This path which can be used for either walking or cycling begins near the old railway station which is now a museum and travels all the way to Wangaratta. With many wonderful destinations to stop and get a bight to eat or something to drink it is a great way to spend a day. If you do not have bikes to bring to Bright you can hire them from the Caltex service station or Cycle Path Bike shop. You can even hire a sun smart cart to put on the back of a bike for the kids to small to ride.
Walks
Have a look at local walks and Bush walks. Many of these walks are suitable for children of all ages.
Wandiligong has a great attraction for children, The Wandi Maze. This large hedge maze is great fun to run around in and get lost. With a café on site, playground, mini golf and the maze it really does cater for the whole family.
