Murray to the Mountain Rail Trail

On a warm sunny day what better activity is there than cycling! With the Murray to the Mountains Rail Trail, which travels from Bright to Wangaratta and Beechworth, you not only have an enjoyable ride but a safe ride with the track paved and set back from the road, however crossing at intersection. This trail began development in the early 1990's, around ten years after the last train went along the tracks and was completed to its current state by 2002. Go on a tour

Due to there being such an array of things to do and see, tours are operated regularly to make the planning for visitors that little bit easier. The type of tour can range from visiting a local wineries and the cheese factories to a day spent exploring the cattlemen’s huts up on the Bogong high plains. The transport varies from four wheel drives, minibuses and limousines.  For information on the individual operators go to ‘Tour and Activity operators’ under ‘Things to see and Do’.

On Foot

With the abundance of wildlife and tranquil wilderness that surrounds the Bright area why not go for a leisurely stroll or an endurance hike up in the High Plains of Victoria. Even the local walks can make you forget you are just on the outskirts of town. More details can be seen under 'Local walks' and 'Bush walks'

When driving yourself you really have the option of going wherever you like. However a few suggestions never go astray. Possible roots that can be taken are:

·          Bright> Myrtleford >Milawa> Oxley and return. (137.8km complete trip)

·          Bright> Myrtleford >Milawa/ Oxley> Beechworth> back to Myrtleford and Bright (160km complete trip)

·          Bright> Myrtleford> Beechworth>Yackandandah>back to Myrtleford and Bright ( 149.7km Total trip)

·          Bright> Mt Beauty> Ovens> Bright  (113.30km round trip)

·          Bright> Mt Beauty> Yackandandah> Myrtleford> Bright (159.70km round trip)

·          Bright> Harrietville> Mt Hotham> Omeo> return (220km return)

·          Bright> Mt Beauty> Bogong High Plains> Omeo(this is not accessible during Ski season)>return (250km return)

·          Bright> Mt Beauty> Bogong High Plains> Omeo> Mt Hotham> Harrietville>Bright (this is not accessible during Ski season)- Definitely a full day trip. (235km round trip)
