Bushwalking in the Alpine Country
Bright is surrounded by Alpine Country with Mt Buffalo, Mt Hotham, Mt Feathertop, Bogong High Plains and more all close by. One of the best ways to really get the feel for this country is doing some of the terrific walks that trail these mountains.
Mount Buffalo has around 20 marked out trails that help you to explore the majestic atmosphere and views. These walks range from 1 hour return to 5 hours one way and many can be accessed all year round.
The Bogong High Plains are scattered with historic cattlemen’s huts that are often the focal point for many photographs. Parks Victoria has also marked out many walks up there that range from .5km to a full day’s hike of 16 km. During the snow season there is limited access to many of the huts.
A very popular walk in this area is the Razorback walk which is 22 km return across the ridge that links Mt Feathertop and Mt Hotham. It is a walk that requires a little preparation; however it is extremely worth while as the views are spectacular.
For more details on the walks around these areas you can contact Parks Victoria, call into the Bright Visitors Centre and pick up a detailed walking map or go to the below link.
