Located high up in the Victorian snowfields and bounded by the picturesque Alpine village of Dinner Plain, arrival of the seasons first snow is signal to the Altitude 5000 Sled Dog Group to step up preparation for their spectacular SLED DOG CHALLENGE!

Celebrating its 20th anniversary at Dinner Plain in 2013, the event is sure to be bigger and better than ever!

This annual event showcases the top dogs of sled dog racing in Australia and is unique in being the first Australian snow-based race of its kind. More than 75 Mushers (dog team drivers) and in excess of 350 sled dogs are expected to compete at this year’s event. The race is held over two days with times recorded on both days. Teams who successfully complete the course both days with combined fastest times are the winners.

Spectators are welcome to meander through the “Sled Dog Park” (race pits) – where all dog teams are housed, get up close with dog sleds and equipment, speak with Mushers and with owners permission pat or have their photo taken with their favourite dog team.

More details will be released closer to the event date. Keep checking the website for updates!

**Dinner Plain is the only Australian Alpine Village where sled dogs are allowed to race for this specific weekend and is under strict permit conditions. Spectators are most welcome, but it is stressed that dogs not competing be left at home.
