Audax Alpine Classic

Sunday 26 January 2014

Date: 26 JanuaryVenue: Bright / Tawonga Gap / Falls Creek / Mt Buffalo

The Audax Alpine Classic is a welcome fixture on the Bright annual calendar of events and attracts 2,000 cyclists from all over Australia. There are five rides ranging in distance from 70kms with one climb (to the top of Mount Buffalo), to the 200kms (ACE 250 is the longest ride) challenge which includes four climbs.

This is the original 200km route of the Alpine Classic and still attracts over 50% of entrants. It departs from Bright and climbs Tawonga Gap before skirting and then entering Mount Beauty. A long climb to the control at the top of Falls Creek follows. The route returns via Tawonga Gap to Bright for another control stop. This is followed by the climb up Mount Buffalo before the long descent back to Bright. This is a very difficult but rewarding ride. The maximum time permitted to complete this ride is 13 hours, 30 minutes.

The Audax Alpine Classic will also include a festival-type event over the weekend, and to celebrate their long ties with France, have called the event Bonjour Bright. It's sure to be the highlight of the weekend and running in Howitt Park, will feature fabulous French food and music. Bonjour Bright will run over the Australia day long weekend.

Bookings open August 2013!
